My story about Eatwell Farm embarking on a campaign to breed their own heritage poultry led me to learn about Barnraiser. Here's my story about it.
My latest "Talking With" is with an artist who uses cake, among other things, as her medium. Meet Leah Rosenberg.
I really enjoy doing these Q&A features called "Talking With..." as they are fun to write, easy to read, and feature people doing interesting things. This guy attended a music festival in Mali (that unfortunately is taking place in exile now) and ended up founding a non-profit to build schools in the area.
I first wrote about Akiva Resnikoff and The Cookie Department for Berkeleyside. But I knew there was a good Jewish story in here. Sure enough, there was.
As one friend said who reposted this on Facebook, you can't make this stuff up. Tanya Solomon went on Guy Fieri's Grocery Games, and beat her competitors without taking a single bit of what she made. And to top it off, her winning dish had SPAM in it. She was hilarious. Read about it here.
I've been a member of Eatwell Farm for almost eight years now. I happened to visit in June for a story I was writing for j. weekly about a woman running a cooking camp for kids that was having an overnight there, and while there, Nigel, the farmer, saw me and told me about an exciting project he was embarking on. I was excited to be the first to have this story.
